Emergency Board Ups in Cambridge, MA

Broken windows and damaged exterior doors are the most common openings that need immediate securing after fires, break-ins, storm damage, and impact events. A single broken window can allow rain, wind, and cold air to enter a structure and cause significant secondary damage in a short period, especially in New England winters where temperature drops can freeze wet structural materials and expand pipe damage. First Response Restoration boards up broken windows and damaged door frames using structural materials that provide weather protection and deter unauthorized entry while the property is in the restoration and insurance process.

Fires frequently destroy multiple windows, exterior door frames, garage doors, and sections of roofing in a single event, leaving significant openings that expose the property to weather exactly when water-saturated insulation and drywall from firefighting efforts are most vulnerable to additional damage. First Response Restoration provides fire board ups immediately after fire events, often on the same call as the initial fire damage assessment, to close all structural openings before weather or opportunistic access can compound the loss.

Severe storms in New England, including nor'easters, summer thunderstorms, and tropical remnants, can break windows, damage exterior doors, and strip roofing from structures in a single event. Storm board ups differ from fire board ups in that multiple properties are often affected simultaneously, the openings tend to be distributed across the building envelope, and rain intrusion through unaddressed openings can continue for days if weather is slow to clear. First Response Restoration responds to storm board up requests as quickly as possible to limit ongoing water intrusion through storm-damaged openings.

Board ups are almost always part of a broader emergency response, rarely the only service a damaged property needs. While securing openings, First Response Restoration assesses for active water intrusion, identifies debris and structural hazards, evaluates soot or smoke migration from fire events, and discusses the full scope of the restoration with the property owner. When water extraction, fire cleanup, mold assessment, or other services are needed, we coordinate that next phase so recovery begins promptly rather than waiting until board ups are complete before making additional calls.
